Reading MAC .Pages format on a Windows PC

This is usually a hassle when students submit these MAC .pages files. Of course, it is easy in iWork to export to a nice Word .doc format. But if that option is past, how can I read it?

How can I open a .pages file?
- The .pages file is a bundle of files stored in a .zip compressed format.
- Rename the .pages file with a .zip extension
- Open the .zip file and in the QuickLook folder find the Preview.pdf file. This is the document you were looking for.
What about a .numbers file?
- Similarly, the .numbers file is a .zip compressed folder
- The QuickLook folder contains a Jpeg preview rather than a PDF
These file formats for .pages and .numbers exist for iWork 09 at least.
What happens with complicated, multi workbook .numbers files? Good question! I hope that the Jpeg is up to the task.
I've also seen an xml.gz file which must be the primary file bucket used by the MAC.
