The original BBQ Rub from Deb Stegner, Knoxville, TN
- Kosher salt
- Paprika
- Ground black pepper
- Brown sugar
- mix together equal parts of the 4 ingredients. Stores in an airtight container.
- great on pork and chicken
The revised BBQ Rub!
- Kosher salt
- Paprika
- Ground black pepper
- Brown sugar
- Garlic powder
- mix together equal parts of the first 4 ingredients and a half measure of #5, garlic powder.
- Add a shake or two of red pepper flakes for a bit more heat.
Alton Brown Dry Rub:
- 8 tablespoons light brown sugar, tightly packed
- 3 tablespoons kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon jalapeno seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon rubbed thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- mix all ingredients together
This gives some interesting alternatives to my basic "revised BBQ rub"
Barbeque Bob's - BBQ Recipe Secrets - All Purpose BBQ Rub:
- 8 tablespoons paprika
- 6 tablespoons garlic powder
- 6 tablespoons salt
- 5 tablespoons black pepper
- 3 tablespoons cayenne
- 3 tablespoons onion powder
- 2 tablespoons dried oregano
- 2 tablespoons dried thyme
Another interesting list of Rub spices, I have not tried it but I think that it has some interesting combinations.
- ½ Tsp cayenne pepper
- ½ Tsp Spanish paprika
- ½ Tsp granulated onion
- ½ Tsp ground black pepper
- ½ Tsp ground white pepper
- ½ Tsp kosher salt
- 1 Tsp granulated garlic
- 1 Tsp ancho chile powder
- 1 Tsp chile powder
- 1 Tsp ground cumin
- 1 Tsp celery salt
- 2 Tsp white sugar
- 1 Tsp dark brown sugar
