Nashville Hikes

  • Stones River - from Lebanon Pike south to Percy Priest Dam. 3 miles (one way). Parking at either the north end by Kohls or at the south end below Percy Priest Dam. Stones River Greenway map. Hiked this trail several times Fall 2008 and early 2009. Heavily traveled. An optional trail head is at the Donelson YMCA on Lebanon Pike, this shortens the trails considerably.
  • Stones River - from Heartland Park to Lebanon Pike. 3 miles (one way). Parking in the small lot at Heartland Park (water treatment plant is at the end of the road). Heartland Park is off McGavock Pike on Fernbrook Lane. This is just north of Two Rivers Parkway (East of Briley Parkway). The trail goes both directions here. Heading east from the trail head puts you on the Cumberland River bluff, alongside cow pastures and a golf course, and the last mile is along a paved road (but barricaded so no cars). The Greenway map shows this section as not complete, however, the bridge over Stones River has a 2004 plaque! Hiked it on 2-14-2009. Sparsely traveled on a late Saturday afternoon.
  • Nashville Greenways info site and maps (although my experience is that the trails are more developed and up to date than the maps. The maps seem to be lagging behind by at least 5 years of development.)
