DDV Notes on PmWiki

Advantages of PmWiki

  • easy installation
  • data is stored in flat files, no need to administer a database
  • security features provide capability of controling user update and administrator update access. Note that these require setting directory permissions in addition to configuration file changes
  • a wiki is about process, note the history of changes to a page. In terms of getting to a final presentation and a PowerPoint digression ... See Ian Parker, Absolute Powerpoint: "'Powerpoint gives you the outcome, but it removes the process.'" Also check out Edward Tufte - Cognitive Style of Powerpoint
  • skins make changing the look fairly simple

God, give us grace
to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
courage to change the things
that should be changed,
and the wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.
